A Completely New Path - Lifesong Honduras

We are blessed to share this update & story from Guy Henry,  Lifesong Honduras,

"600 students finish the school year with their lives marked & changed forever! 80 graduates are launched into the future!

The following story is from the life of a graduate who overcame the 'trials' of her home life and the odds that were stacked against her.  Not only has her life been marked and changed, she has been completely redirected, all to the Glory of God...

Those leaders that were present can still remember Darlene's interview. She entered and left the room with the same shy stance. Her hair was long and curly, framing her big brown, downcast eyes. Perhaps she was shy and nervous, but perhaps she also was feeling a sense of shame. Her mother was pregnant with her fourth child and admitted that her children each had different fathers. Based on this young ladies natural beauty and the little bit of innocence that she still had, her need to be accepted for the next year was apparent, an overwhelming need to protect her was felt by all.

Darlene has excelled in her studies and always has had high percentiles. She graduated with honors and was nominated "Female Student of the Year". Her attitude has always been respectful and cooperative, teachable and receptive to the guidance of both the leadership staff and her teachers. She is a strong young woman and a beautiful example of how God can lift a head that was once cast down. She is determined to not repeat the pattern, and instead a completely new path."

Orphans Serving Orphans: Lifesong Honduras

Please enjoy this update from Lifesong Honduras:

• Our senior Business Students recently launched a sewing and alterations business.  A church group who visited earlier this year donated several new sewing machines, making this endeavor possible.  This is a tangible example of lives being redirected.

• Some of our students were blessed to visit an orphanage in San Pedro Sula.  They ministered to the children there through perfoming musically and theatrically, providing food and clothing, and even giving haircuts!  Most of all they were able to show these orphans the love of Christ through the simplicity of human touch and quality time.

 

Ironically, many of the students reaching out to these children come from very hard places of their own.  But whether they are single orphans, double orphans, or extremely poor, our students recognize the abundance they have in great contrast to the children at the orphanage.  This experience has greatly impacted their hearts, giving them a broader vision in each of their own lives!

As we wrapped up our 10-day Honduras blitz, it was amazing to hear the stories of how the Lord moved hearts to respond to the need. 

The Lord raised up 49.5 commitments in 10 days! That’s over $17,000 over the next year, which will be doubled and becomes over $35,000! What a mighty God we serve!

and I'm excited to share some pictures and stories with you now in a little something I like to call Tortilla Tuesday Testimonials! (Click on the names in bold to read more on their blogs!)

As we participated in Tortilla Tuesday, we talked about how much we truly take for granted.  We pulled our pre-made tortillas out of a package, beans from a can with no need for soaking overnight, and minute rice together and it was SO EASY.  Not so for many people in Honduras - I can't imagine the hours it takes to prepare each meal.  We took some time to be thankful for what we have, and to consider the ways that God would have us to share that with others.  We asked God to make our hearts softened to the needs of those all around us so that we can be a part of being His hands and feet to the world."

When Mr. Incredible arrived home and looked at what I was cooking, "oh, it's Tuesday" escaped with very little zeal.  But what an opportunity it has provided to sit and eat a meal that so many others share ALL the time and reflect on how BLESSED our family is. Though the meal may not be Mr. Incredible's favorite, he does a wonderful job leading the kids in thinking outside of their world.  I think Tortilla Tuesday is going to hang around for awhile!!!

We decided to bring TORTILLA TUESDAY to our community group to help share the needs of the children in Honduras.  Our community group enjoys a meal together before each of our meetings.  So this was a great time to learn about others who live so differently than we do and to consider how the Lord might have us share out bounty with them.  Before the meal,  James read through some facts regarding the people and children of Honduras.  Then the digging in commenced; with a greater appreciation of our abundance, I'm sure.

We talked as a family and tried to think about how if we were that child up in the mountains of Honduras—with no shoes, not enough clothes or food, no electricity, no school---how amazing it would be to be able to go to Plan Escalon!
