Lives are Being Transformed

Vanya from Lifesong for Orphans on Vimeo.

I remember the first time I saw Vanya because there was something different about him. Yes, he was the only black kid in the whole orphanage, but more than that, there was something about his eyes that intrigued me.

"Vanya is a smart kid." Denis, our director, told us. "He was abandoned as a newborn. His parents were students at the university and he is very smart."

I smiled at him and he smiled back. His outgoing personality was evident as he tried his hand at English.  I met a lot of kids at that summer camp in 2004, but Vanya is the one I remember.

Kids Caring 4 Kids visits Lifesong Zambia

"I'm just a girl who wants to make a difference for other kids."

In 2004, 11 year old Kendall Ciesemier organized Kids Caring 4 Kids after undergoing 2 liver transplants in one summer.  Her heart went out to kids who also had physical challenges but no family or resources to help them.  So instead of flowers and gifts, she urged family and friends to donate to her new organization and partnered with World Vision so she could help kids suffering from the affects of AIDS!

Now, KC4K has also partnered with Lifesong and others and is on a mission to raise $1 million to help children in Africa!  In Lifesong Zambia, KC4K has funded indoor plumbing and a "sick bay" for the school.

This past friday KC4K had the great opportunity to visit our Zambia school.  Check out Kendall's blog here where she recaps their day!

Laughter & Smiles

We go all-out to give our kiddos the very best we possibly can.  In Ethiopia, this looks much different than it does for you and me in the US!

Lifesong for Orphans is supporting 3 schools in the Ziway, Ethiopia area. We are currently repairing one of the schools and are in the process of building another, but are hopeful to use all three this fall.

Let’s turn this bare piece of land at the Ziway Lifesong School

...Into a place of laughter and smiles!

We are excited and hopeful for the schools in Ethiopia as we look to fill the rooms with desks, school supplies, blackboards, playground equipment, libary books etc.  We invite you to join us in ministering to the youth of Ethiopia.  For the children, for their country, but most of all for the glory of Father who is the God and Father of all.

Dark to Dawn

Imagine being a foster child… graduating from high school, being on your own, and having no family to support you?

Dark to Dawn, a ministry based in Thousand Oaks, CA, is organizing an event to support foster youth in Ventura County, where about 40-50 kids age out of the foster care system every year.  Their goal is to rally the Christian community together to embrace the local foster youth.

This event will tell the story of 4 young people who've transitioned from foster care into independent living.  They’ll share their experiences and struggles, allowing the local community to meet them, learn about them, and love them, as the Lord loves them.

What an inspiration to reach out to the foster youth in our own communities?  What about you?  Have you been a part of a recent foster youth outreach?  We'd love to hear from you!  As Christ's hands and feet lets encourage each other to change how our communities love orphans!
