Wait No More

Check out what our friends Kelly Rosati, Katie Porter and the Focus on the Family's icareaboutorphans.org team are doing!...

Right now, more than 700 legal orphans in Colorado foster care are waiting for adoptive families.  Colorado has over 3000 churches, and God has given clear commands for Christians to take care of His orphan children.

So if the command is clear and the need is apparent, why are these kids still waiting?

We have a similar situation in AR and the issue is not a simple one. Adding someone to your family is a life-changing and serious decision, not to be taken lightly. It is improper to look at the numbers and scratch one's head as to why it exists and even worse to use shame to motivate Christians to act.

The Scripture is clear that we should care for the orphan - that DOES NOT mean that the only way we can care for them is to take them into our homes. There are a number of other ways to care for the orphan and it is time to show the Church what that means.

The trick is to raise awareness about the need and then seek the Lord for His provision and then be ready to support and encourage the stirrings the Lord places in someone's heart to act. It takes a great amount of courage to decide to adopt and it isn't for everyone and it is high time that the Church become the greatest cheerleader for those that take the leap of faith rather than wring our hands and resort to guilt and shame to motivate.

@Steve - You are right that not every family is called or equipped to bring a child home through adoption. Some are called to adopt, some to care for those who won't be adopted (orphan care), some to give in ways of helping those families who can adopt, some to pray, some to help in post-adoption support, etc.

Thankful for His stirrings...
