Quita's Story

Hello, my name is Quita. I'm 5 years old. The rebels came to our village during the disarmament time in our town and they took all the men and carried them to an unknown place. Since that time, my father never returned. We heard that my father and the other people from our town were taken to the bridge and they shot them and threw their bodies in the river.

My mother and the other women ran to Salala district where my mother later got sick and became paralyzed. My mother died last year and the people took me to the Lifesong Master's Home of Champions to take care of me. I'm in the K-1 class and when I grow up, I want to be a medical doctor to help children.

Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young...

"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." 1 Timothy 4:12

What a sweet reminder from 6 year old, Siena Medefind! She sent her birthday money to Lifesong for the orphans in Ethiopia!

Siena - May the Lord continue to work in your heart... and may the world be a different place because of your generosity! Thank you so much and Happy Birthday!

Lifesong Ethiopia

Lifesong Ethiopia Advocates,

Please enjoy these two updates from Gary and Peggy, directors for Lifesong Ethiopia orphan care -

The plans for the new grade school in Ziway are finalized, the builder has been selected and the work has just begun.  The block wall or “fence” surrounding the property is also going up.  In Ethiopia towns, similar to other third world countries, a property usually has a secure fence surrounding it to mark its boundaries and to secure the contents on the inside from theft.

Lifesong for Orphans pays an elderly widow woman to make the injera used to feed the 300 children at school. She delivers the injera twice a week to the school on a horse cart.

Injera is the traditional Ethiopian bread that is made from a tiny grain called teff that is grown locally. Teff is naturally high in iron, fiber and calcium, which is really beneficial to the children’s diet.  The injera looks like a huge crepe that has bubbles in it, since it is made with a sourdough yeast starter which gives it a distinctive sour taste.  It is used as a base on the plate with the main dish added on top, usually as gravy. The meal is eaten by tearing off pieces of injera and scooping up the gravy with your fingers.

The children in the feeding program are taught to pray to Jesus and give thanks before their meal. This is a wonderful opportunity since not all of the children come from Christian homes.

Nursery School in the town on Adami Tulu: The kitchen and the dining facility at the Nursery School are getting close to being ready to feed the 55 nursery students a hot meal twice a day.

Plans are made to divide the Nursery School into two classes during the summer break recess.  There will be a room for nursery students and also lower kindergarten."

Lifesong Liberia - Please pray for Alvin!

Hello, my name is Alvin Dennis. I am 7 years old. I was born in the Liberian Refugee Camp in Ghana, Africa where my mother went as a refugee while running from the civil war in Liberia. While she was in Ghana, her entire family was killed, including her mother, father, and only brother, Matthew. My father was also a refugee in Ghana and he died at the refugee camp before I was born.

My mother took care of me and carry me everywhere with her. I was like her toy. My mother returned home to Liberia in 2007 and she started recovering from drinking alcohol and started coming to church.

On December 22, 2009 in the morning my mother started vomiting and when they took her to the hospital, she died from malaria. Because I don't have anyone to care from me, I was brought to the Lifesong Master's Home of Champions where I am going to school and playing now with my new friends.”

From Lifesong Liberia Director -

He cries everyday while his friends are playing and all of them will stop and gather around him to comfort him.  It been so hard for him.  I preached his mother's funeral 6 weeks ago."
