Tasty Treats #4: Iced Coffee Latte

Wow.  What a day yesterday.  The power of God is mighty, isn't it?  Praise the Lord Davids is on his way to being adopted by a loving family!  Thank you to everyone who committed this boy to prayer.  Your prayers really did make a difference!  Got to love when the body of Christ joins together in prayer for orphans!

And now it's time for another...

Today we're featuring the Iced Coffee Latte on page 14, made with none other than Gobena coffee.

Serving orphans never tasted so good.

The recipe calls for 1/3 cup instant coffee granules mixed into 1/2 cup of boiling water, but instead I used:

Gobena coffee (whole beans freshly ground)

and brewed it at a 1 heaping tsp coffee:1 cup water ration.  (I would recommend going stronger, if you want a stronger coffee flavor to come through... or you could consider following the recipe too)

i combined the super strong coffee with a quart of chocolate milk, cold water, and a can of sweetened condensed milk... whisked it all together and voila!

And the final product was super yummy!

at least Leah thinks so...

(and Marla and Christi and me too!)

Tasty Treats #3: Chicken Lettuce Wraps

(side note: my apologies for the lack of blog posts last week.  sometimes life just gets in the way... sometimes in the form of technical difficulties... sometimes in the form of the flu... and sometimes both)

The holidays are over but that doesn't mean we can't still enjoy some good cooking from our "Taste of Heaven" cookbook.  So in the spirit of starting of this year right we're going to talk about a little blessing called Chicken Lettuce Wraps. (yum)

These little tasty sensations were introduced to me a few years ago at a little get together at my sister's house.  "Try them," she said.  "They taste just like PF Chang's!  They're amazing!"

So I did.

And they were.

Yes I have many a fond memory with these little friends... Christmas parties, Superbowl parties, special get togethers.  Such a treat.

I was unable to make these to share with the office, but a reliable source who has mastered this recipe (my sister) informs me that while they may not be the easiest recipe in the book, their definitely worth it.

Agreed.

On another note:

Orphan advocate/ church fund partner, Joy, is selling an extra ticket to the Tostitos BCS National Championship game on ebay and giving all the money to Lifesong!  Right now the current bid is at $3,650!  Whoo-hoo!  Thank you, Joy!

Have a beautiful Thursday!

Tasty Thursday Treats # 2: Office Party

Today was our office Christmas party.  We sang a couple Christmas songs, gave a few toasts, had some grand conversations, and ate lot's of yummy foods, 3 of which were recipes straight out of the Taste of Heaven cookbook... hence today's

Our 3 treats are

1) Stuffed Mushrooms and 2) Turtle Pretzel Bites made by yours truly.

and  3) Party Cocktail Meatballs made by Christi.

Unfortunately I have no documentation of Christi making the meatballs, but did get the blessed task of eating some... tasty!

As for my two creations, I was in a bit of a rush, but was able to complete both recipes in just under an hour and leave my mother's house (it's closer to work than mine, and like I said, I was in a rush... plus, she has wax paper and I sadly do not) to get to the Christmas party in the nick of time.  phew!

The mushrooms and bites were a success, along with all the other wonderful treats that everyone brought (including crab rangoon dip and cheesecake).  Mmmmm... Nothing spells Christmas quite like tables full of deliciousness!

See for yourself:

And now that that's over, I'm contemplating a post-Christmas-party-food-eatin' nap!  (after I get my work done, of course)

On another note, this Christmas we want to share the faces of Lifesong.  So if you are one of our adoptive families, we'd love to receive a Christmas card from you!  On Christmas Day we'll post a collage of all the families (or as many as we can get) we've been able to help.  (all names will be removed for those who wish to remain anonymous on the web)

You can either send your cards to our office at PO Box 40 or 202 N. Ford St, Gridley, IL  61744 or email them to info@lifesongfororphans.org

Merry Christmas!
