Celebrate Advent, Love Orphans

Ad·vent

noun \ˈad-ˌvent, chiefly British -vənt\

Definition: the period beginning four Sundays before Christmas and observed by some Christians as a season of prayer and fasting; the coming of Christ at the Incarnation; a coming into being or use

I'm sure many of you have celebrated "the countdown" in various different ways from eating a candy a day to daily acts of kindness to reading a portions of scripture.

This year, I invite you to read the letter below from Jenna and Jessica Metcalfe, daughters of our Program Director, Rich Metclafe.  Jenna and Jessica used their creative hearts to come up with this special advent calendar. Listen in...

Over three years ago, our family felt God calling us to adopt.  The process has been long and crazy, but God has opened our eyes to the huge orphan crisis around the world.  We learned of the need for Christians to step up and be God’s hands and feet to reach out to His children.  So often it’s easy for us to think, ‘Oh, I’m just a teenager… I can’t do anything about a big problem like this.  Maybe when I grow up God will call me or show me how to help orphans.’

But God has told us as believers to help the fatherless, and there is no good reason why we shouldn’t start now.  First Timothy 4:12 says, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”  We have the opportunity and the responsibility to use our time, energy and enthusiasm for God’s kingdom and for His glory.  So let’s do it!

We’ve put together an advent calendar that counts down to Christmas from December 1st-24th.   Each day there is a little instruction saying something like "Give 2 cents for every pair of shoes in your home".  Also, there are two Bible references each day – one about orphans and one telling the Christmas story. We hope to raise awareness about the plight of orphans and God’s heart for them. And that from an increased awareness, we all would not only realize how blessed we are in America, but also be motivated to share from those blessings to bring physical relief, joy and purpose to orphans.

Thank you for prayerfully considering this opportunity to show the love of Jesus to so many vulnerable children.

In His love,

Jessica and Jenna

Give Thanks to God for You - Lifesong India

We are blessed to share this update from Bob Stoll,  Lifesong India liaison,

"You deserve a sincere thank you for your faithful participation in this ministry. Your prayers, gifts and obedience to the Holy Spirit have encouraged us and made possible a notable miracle in the multitudes of lives which have been changed spiritually, materially and physically.

Receiving Christmas presents

It has been a blessed privilege for Siromani and me to be a voice communicating on behalf of the kids in India.  It is also our duty toassure you of their appreciationfor the blessing you have provided year after year for more than thirty-four years. We have gladly undertaken this responsibility because we believe this is our calling for God's glory.

You have built six homes where you are providing total care to 570 children. They receive a new set of clothes at Christmas (enjoy the Christmas pictures!), education through college, food, toilet articles, and Bibles.

Christmas Celebration

You have also been faithful to provide continual help to nearly 60 poor pastors and gospel workers, 130 indigent widows and elderly and have built nearly 40 new churches for remote village congregations.

We send their sincere thanks and our to you and assure you that our friends in India 'pray for you and give thanks to God for you every day.'"

Merry Christmas from Lifesong

"You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal's death on a cross.”       Philippians 2:5-8

Lifesong 'Christmas Card'!

'Friends like you are some of the great things life is made of...Merry Christmas!'

-From Andy & the Lifesong Staff

'The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.' Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying, 'Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.' Luke 2:11-14
